Story
An opportunity has arisen for me to raise much-needed funds for the Children's High Dependency Unit at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.
This unit is where Yahya was treated in the final days of his short, but mighty life. This is the unit where I sat and held him for hours after his passing. This is the unit that houses our final memories with our 2-year-old superhero.
Within this Hospital are memories that I made that will form my path through life. My baby was born here. My father was treated for a heart attack here and through these corridors, they were both wheeled as part of their final journeys.
This unit has no facilities for parents to take a break whilst remaining within close reach of their poorly children. There is nowhere to have a short break, a cup of tea or gather and collect their thoughts on this unit. I know - I was there.
I want to help create a space for parents on the unit so they don't have to leave completely every time they need to step away, for their own sanity, from their child's bedside.
It will have among other things; a sofa, some chairs, a dining table, a coffee table, a TV, lamps for light and somewhere to pray. Would you do without these basics in your own home? Did you know that families spend over a year on this unit as a single stay? In that time, this unit is their home, it's where their little hearts are.
Please, help me. Help me to help those who are not as fortunate as you. They don't need much, but they do need somewhere to take a breath before their test continues.
I've asked before, though this ask is different. I have the opportunity to have the room named after my father and my son if I am able to raise the full £20,000. I can't do this without your help. Will you help me?
I'm asking for a legacy for two of the most precious pieces of my heart. For there to be solidity in what I am trying to do, I need you to help me.
Will you?
