Ok. So two years ago I traveled to Cambodia before going to uni and in this beautiful country of ancient ruins and picturesque white beaches, the devastation caused by the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s is unfortunately still very evident. The brutal Pol Pot dictatorship resulted in over 2million people being executed with the country living in fear of their leader. This had a resulting effect on future generations of Cambodians and today over 10% of Children are orphans. This is where CamKids come in. 

CamKids are a charity providing direct aid to poor children in Cambodia who are either poor or whose parents are no longer there for them. In a country where there is a high rate of child abandonment, it also supports programs to help strengthen families and keep them together. CamKids has absolutely no overhead costs as it is run entirely by its Trustees and supporters and receives all of the goods and services it needs, free of charge, from individuals and friends of the charity.

One of the saddest days of my life was when I was in the capital city, Phnom Phen, and saw the school that was transformed into a concentration camp. Each of the victims' pictures was on the walls and there were still equipment used to torture people on show. I then saw the killing fields where mass executions would take place, as well as the mass graves with thousands of bodies buried underground. One sign in particular i can still remember said 'Killing tree. For the children and pregnant women'. It was a sad day, and unbelievable that this genocide had only taken place 30 or so years ago.

Although we can’t right past wrongs, with your help and donations we can give the children of Cambodia living in the aftermath of these atrocities a better quality of life.
