Story
My amazing son Freddy died in his sleep on the 19th August 2021 and this October I, and a good friend of mine, will be completing a week long challenge in his memory. Starting on the 2nd October we will be running the Loch Ness Marathon and then cycling 800 miles back to London climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon on the way.
I am completing this challenge to fundraise for the 100+ blossom tree walk that we are planting in Fred’s memory. This 5 mile circular route will cover Fred’s stomping ground, the streets and parks of SE London where he was grown and nurtured. When finished it will provide a living, breathing, loving tribute for the whole community in everlasting memory of Freddy. The trees we are planting are Cherries, Crab Apples and Magnolias all of which blossom in April and should therefore be in full bloom each year on Fred's birthday.
The last year has been unremittingly dark and planning and planting the tree walk with my wife and daughter has given us focus and kept our heads just above water. Running, cycling and walking have also helped to keep me sane. Therefore, what better way to raise the rest of the funds for Fred’s walk than running, riding and rambling my way across the length of the UK.
We are planting Freddy’s Blossom Walk in conjunction with Street Trees for Living and have already raised £30,000 towards Fred's walk. 24 trees were planted in November 2021 and another 50 have been mapped and will be planted this November. The final trees and route will then be finished in November 2023. Each tree costs £350 to map and plant and if you would like to donate a leaf, twig, branch or whole tree it would be very gratefully received.
Much love and thank you for reading, Archie, Emily, Ivy and ‘always’ Fred 🏃♂️🚴🏻♂️🏔🙏🏻🌳❤️X
