Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As you may know , Yasmin and I sponsor two of the children at New Hope Centre Children’s Home, where Lorraine and I first began our support with a visit back in 2010 as part of an amazing team from St Paul’s Hammersmith.

Well, 10 years on from that first mission trip , one of the children we sponsor - a girl named Apphia ,is being given a great opportunity to explore her artistic talent , and secure her future in education and beyond.

Apphia is one of the most humble and joyous little girls I have ever met ,whose start in life was truly horrific before she was saved by NHC taking her in and becoming her family.  Her faith , her love for life and her calm wisdom was an inspiration to me when I first spent time with her even though she was only 5 years old. I really hope I can find a video of her that I took at that age , sitting on the steps with me , spontaneously singing songs of praise. If I can find it I will share it with you all for sure ❤️

Now Apphia is coming up to 14  and she has grown into a beautiful young lady with a sweet and caring nature , an animal lover who looks after all the dogs at the centre.

She also has burgeoning talent for painting. This has been noticed by a visiting volunteer who is an art teacher from Taiwan who is currently organising for an interview for her for an art scholarship at a school in Taiwan itself  for the next four years.

Apphia will be supported by the art teacher’s family whilst she is there and if successful in getting a place will stay with the family for the next four years, as she studies at the English speaking school.

The main reason we are reaching out for help is that even though her flight to Taiwan to attend her interview in January has been covered by the host family , both Apphia and her chaperone from New Hope , Sis Tanzi, will have to quarantine for two weeks on arrival in Taiwan  , which is going to cost £1800 for the two of them as it has to be at an official government quarantine hotel. This amount needs to be raised before the trip can be finalised so I am hoping that you may be able to help in some way by contributing whatever you can even if it’s donating the price your daily coffee .

I have asked Apphia if she could paint something to showcase her talent. We will then put the names of every donor in a hat and have her completed painting sent to the winner who will be drawn at random , whilst everyone not lucky enough to win will get a print of the picture.

I really love her most recent picture of a majestic , colourful lion which you can see is the cover image on this page . Her painting was entered into a completion in Swaziland and is currently being displayed as one of the winners there. I know that she is praying for inspiration for her new piece  , but it is safe to say will certainly be from her heart.

I realise it’s been a very difficult year for many , and that some won’t be in a position to help financially , but your prayers for Apphia will be most welcome. It’s a huge undertaking for a young girl to leave her home and all that she knows , to study abroad; but we feel that she has so much to share with the world that we want to make sure she is well supported in following her dreams.

Sending big love ,

Jason and Yasmin.
