Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
For as long as I can remember, my eleven year old son, Anthony has always done what he can to help other people in the community. Whether it’s giving up his Easter egg to donate to the food bank or spending his pocket money to buy a sandwich for a rough sleeper, he empathises with others and wants to make a difference to their lives.
Two years ago, Anthony learned about the work of the Princess Trust and the many ways they help children in the UK. Anthony was particularly impressed by how the charity helps young people with cancer, by accepting donations of hair and making them into wigs for young people that have lost their hair as a side effect of chemotherapy treatment.
Anthony immediately came home and told me that he wanted to donate his hair to charity. There was only one problem...he had short hair!
But Anthony didn’t let that stop him. For the past two years, he has been growing and growing his hair. But it hasn’t been easy, there aren’t many 11 year old boys in Fife with shoulder length locks, and some people have made unkind comments. But Anthony didn’t let this negativity get him down and remained committed to his goal.
Today he visited Lime Salon in Inverkeithing, after a two year break, to give his now 12 inch long hair the big chop. His locks were sent off to the Princess Trust, where they will be made into a gorgeous wig that will change another young person’s life for the better.
I am so proud of Anthony. He embarked on this mission when he was only 9 and has shown real commitment and selflessness by seeing it through.
I of course wanted to reward my amazing son for what he’s done, but Anthony being Anthony instead asked me to make a donation to another charity that’s close to his heart, Frontline Fife.
Anthony has always been touched by the experience of homeless people in Scotland and he’s now keen to raise a bit of money for this local homelessness charity.
Anthony has already done so much to help others. It would mean the world to us if everyone on here could get behind him and spare a little money for this great cause.
Thanks
