Our much loved mum, Annie Catlow, sadly passed away on 21st May 2020. Due to the current restrictions only immediate family were able to attend Annie’s funeral. Many of the family and friends who couldn't attend have asked if they could make a donation in Mum's name. Donations in lieu of flowers would be much appreciated. Our chosen Charity is Making Space, Derby City Dementia Support, for those who wish to contribute.

Through her final years, Annie lived with dementia, a condition which devastates lives, slowly stripping people of their memories, relationships and identities. We’re very proud to say that mum courageously took every challenging step in her stride and it was only in the last stages that her lovely smile faded. 

Throughout her life Annie gave so much of herself to others. For many years she was a home help to the elderly and disabled of Spondon, helping them to maintain independence in their own homes. Today, we remain thankful to the friends that stepped up to be there for Annie, in a similar way, throughout her illness, providing the support and company that she herself came to need. We are also extremely appreciative of the service provided by community based Making Space, Derby City Dementia Support. On a regular basis, at a time when Annie was unable to go out on her own, they would collect her and take her to social lunch clubs and various group activities across Derbyshire. These outings were perfect for meeting people in similar circumstances. Mum really enjoyed the company and that lifted her spirits and allowed her to live a fuller, more enriched life. As a family, we were assured too, as the staff are experienced and always understanding, kind and courteous, which meant we as carers got time out ourselves, without worry.

We know that Annie would want us to say a big thank you to them all and give back for the excellent support she received from Making Space, Derby City Dementia Support - so that others can continue to benefit, many of whom would otherwise be facing dementia alone, without adequate assistance.
