Story
If you’ve been to a supermarket recently you’ll have seen how empty the shelves have been. Even emptier are the foodbanks bins by the checkouts.
Foodbanks across the country have been hit really hard. Their usual donations have dried up whilst demand is expected to soar. Foodbanks play a vital role during school holidays as vulnerable families, who rely on school dinners to feed their kids, look for help. The closure of schools has been hitting our local communities very hard.
I recently spoke with the coordinator for the St Ann’s and Sneinton foodbook and they are in desperate need of help. While we may not be able to donate bags of food right now, we CAN give her the money to buy what she needs now that the shops are recovering.
I have an idea. Given that many of us are stuck indoors, we’re not spending money on our daily commute or weekly coffee shop treat. How about we donate what we would have spent to the foodbank instead? Or could we provide lunch for a couple of extra kids this week, donating the cost of a loaf of bread, pack of cheese and bag of apples to the foodbank?
Thanks you for your ongoing generosity, folks!
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
p.s. I've set this mighty target as that would be the amount we'd need to raise to give 150 kids a sandwich and a packet crisps on schools days for 4 weeks, costed at £1 per day. It's adds up pretty quick!
