Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This year has, so far been a bit of a bumpy one!
At the beginning of 2014 I gave my Mum the choice of which charity I should raise money for when I walked the LDWA Valleys 100 mile challenge. She chose Macmillan Cancer Support. Shortly after that, I was cast in the 'No one should face cancer alone' Ad for Macmillans (you can see the ad and also my blog at http://www.annabelcleare.com/). And then a close family friend, the very lovely Pat Bewick lost her battle with cancer. One of the charities she requested donations for was Macmillans... And so this year I started raising as much money as I could for this wonderful charity who do so much to support all those affected by cancer. In memory of Pat who was so loved and is so dearly missed.
This was my third 100 mile challenge walk with the LDWA and the toughest one yet, taking place in the Welsh Valleys. Starting at 10am on 24th May in an extremely rain lashed Pontypool, we walked a circular route winding up and down over extremely boggy moorland and through very wet old pit villages to the finish line back in Pontypool arriving only 32 mins ahead of the 10am deadline on 26th May. Here is a link to the official Valleys Hundred website with a description of the route: http://www.ldwa.org.uk/2014Hundred/W/2372/route-overview.html
Back at the hotel and after 52 hours without sleep I finally plucked up courage to get wet again and got in a nice hot shower. That's when I found the lump. Within 3 weeks of that shower I had been diagnosed with level 2 invasive breast cancer.
After two successful operations I am now undergoing chemotherapy.
This fundraising effort is now also about keeping me focused and giving something back...
