I am running the 2012 London Marathon. Yes, you heard correctly, I have accepted the challenge and will be running 26.2 miles in aid of two extremely worthy causes - Crohn's and Colitis UK and The Kent Law Campaign.

Crohn's and Colitis UK aims to improve life for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), the most common forms being Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis. Together these conditions affect about 250,000 people in the United Kingdom. The charity brings together people of all ages who have been diagnosed with IBD, their families and the health professionals involved in their care.

I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease in 2001 and having had two operations I have generally been well for the last few years so want to take this opportunity to show others that you can eventually lead a normal life and take on some crazy challenges!

I am not a natural runner and, as the photograph illustrates, I am probably more likely to be found with a glass of champagne in my hand rather than a bottle of Lucozade so this will most definitely be a huge personal challenge for me!!

Through training I now have constantly painful knees, a dodgy hip and dread my next long run however I am nothing if not determined and promise to keep going until I cross the finish line on The Mall!!
