Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Some of you may know, but many won’t of the debilitating birth injuries I received eleven years ago.
Most see me as bubbly, smiley Anna, but have no idea of the effort it takes for me to do simple tasks, such as getting out the house every day. My anxiety and physical needs have put a huge strain on my family, friends and work and only because of the support I receive from them, I am still here and smiling and trying to turn what happened to me into a positive.
A little less that a year ago, I was asked if I would like to attend a MASIC Education Day in Leicester. My nurse thought it would be good for me to see the work that this charity was doing. As soon as I met the people involved in the charity, I knew it was for me. I was finding it hard to keep in my emotions throughout the day, knowing that this young charity was researching, educating the profession and supporting women with the same issues as me. Being a woman with birth injuries is lonely, stigmatised and continuous. There is no cure for my symptoms, although there are ways to manage them.
A few months later, I left my 25 year career working in education and joined MASIC as their admin coordinator. It hasn’t been easy for me, but I am so happy that I chose to be brave and walk this path.
This month is my birthday. I am to be 45 and too old to be wishing for gifts or cards! If you were thinking of sending me a card, please could I ask instead that you use the money to donate to this vital charity. I would be extremely grateful.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story. If you or anyone else would like to know more about The MASIC Foundation, please look at our website www.masic.org.uk
