Story
‘Separated Child’ was set up in memory of Ester Gluck. Compassionate and creative, Ester was deeply committed to working for the benefit of refugees and people seeking asylum, particularly children and young people.
In recognition of Ester’s legacy and because we know that refugee children and young people have a wealth of experience, ideas and drive that can create positive changes in society, the Trustees are launching two awards to celebrate the most effective projects.
Awards will be for projects that promote community cohesion, mobilise communities or reach out to new people, in the pursuit of social change. They could be any positive change, not only related to refugee issues. They could be a fundraiser; a school assembly; a campaign on a particular issue or cause; a social media campaign; a piece of writing; an artwork; or a short film; among many other things.
There will be two awards: a junior award for children aged up to 16; and a senior award for young people aged 16 to 21.
Awards will consist of a presentation at a special event; a voucher for learning or training materials; an educational or vocational ‘experience’; and a programme of activities, such as a residential or a training programme.

This is not a general fund-raising campaign but, rather, a personal initiative: only people who knew Ester are being invited to participate by contributing to a fund that will make these awards possible. They are being launched now, in the year when Ester would have turned 40.
