Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
3 friends and colleagues (Keith Ashcroft, Colin Bradley, Mark Simpson) and I are attempting to tackle the Fred Whitton Challenge on May 7th 2023 in order to raise funds for a charity chosen by our dear friend and colleague, Andy Richardson, who recently passed away with cancer. Andy was a true gent who would do anything for anybody, would not have a harsh word to say about anyone and made the lives of people who knew him fuller. Andy fought his cancer valiantly without asking 'why me' and was a pillar of strength for those close to him. Andy went through surgery and we all believed everything went well, however this proved not to be the case and a little while later Andy had another fight on his hands and this time it was one fight too many. Again, Andy never moaned, or grumbled about why it had chosen him and still came to work whilst he could and enjoyed what time he had left with both family and friends. This time proved invaluable to many and created so many more memories for people to carry of the man and the legend that is Andy Richardson. Someone the 4 of us and many more can call a true friend and someone who made us all better people.
The charity chosen by Andy prior to his passing is Abbie's Army which is a charity for children suffering with cancer. A friend of Andy and Louise's (Andy's wife) sadly lost their daughter to cancer and Andy felt it would be an honour to do something for this wonderful charity.
The challenge we are undertaking is the Fred Whitton Challenge. It is a bike ride around the Lake District, taking in many of the hills and passes the Lakes have to offer and the daunting one, Hardknot Pass at 94 miles with its 30% gradient. The ride itself is approximately 112miles long and covers around 11,000 feet of climbing.
Anything people can give in honour of Andy and our efforts would be very much appreciated and gratefully received by the charity.
Thank you for all your support.
