Story
Attempting to cycle from my home in Beeston to Curbar in the peak district and back on my birthday (3rd May) to raise money for the Nottingham and Notts Refugee Forum. The journey is just over 80 miles and you can see the rough route I've planned in the gallery. I will hopefully be filming the ride with a GoPro to make a montage video later!
About the charity:
Nottingham Refugee Forum are a fantastic charity that support refugees and asylum seekers in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire through many different services and programmes, and providing a welcoming community centre. They also campaign to government and the local community for a just response to refugees and asylum seekers.
This is most pertinent at a time when the UK government, pioneered by Priti Patel has proposals for a 'New Plan for Immigration' which aims to criminalise people seeking asylum if they arrive in the UK by what they call illegal routes. Sadly, this is only one in a vast string of measures and laws the UK government have made in recent years to toughen up our asylum system, and create a hostile environment to people who may have fled wars or persecution in their home countries.
A donation to this charity will directly help some of the people most needing of support in our society, and help challenge inhumane views and incorrect facts spread by our government and media surrounding refugees and asylum seekers. If you wish to find out more about the charity you can visit the first link below, whilst the second gives some further information about the New Plan for Immigration and links to the official consultation where you can have your say on the government's plans.
