Story
Even a small independent business can make a difference.
Through a series of events and activities, and supported by the amazing community in which we work, we are looking to make a small difference by fundraising for the fabulous inclusive cycling project ‘Gloucestershire Wheels For All’ run by disability charity Leonard Cheshire. Under normal circumstances this popular scheme has participants attending from across the Three Counties. Previous funding for the scheme ended in March 2021 and community support, like this, has a very real part to play in ensuring the project’s future.
About the scheme: Leonard Cheshire is the UK’s leading pan disability charity. Wheels For All runs inclusive, off-road, cycling sessions for disabled and non-disabled people using a variety of bikes including wheelchair transporters, recumbent trikes, companion bikes and hand cycles. The adapted bikes mean anyone aged 5 upwards can take part – whether they have a sensory, physical, learning disability or mental health condition, including dementia. Even throughout lockdown Wheels For All has been able to continue, providing a feeling of escapism and relief for many families. There are currently over 50 organisations, families and individuals who come to cycle at Blackbridge Athletics Track in Gloucester. When restrictions relax sufficiently the scheme is due to reopen in the Forest of Dean too. The project suits anyone who faces a significant barrier to exercise: people recovering from illness or injury, or lacking in confidence with cycling. Using the specially adapted or purposed cycles, the activities provide a whole host of benefits – being both physically and mentally stimulating as well as providing fun, socially interactive opportunities for everyone involved.
