Story
When we retired in 2013, four of us friends decided to do the Coast to Coast walk in Northern England. A tough walk of 200 miles in appalling conditions. Since then we have done our walk in rather better climes. France, Portugal, Italy and, in 2019, Spain. Sadly Michael had a heart attack on the last day of the walk from Granada. 2020 and 2021 were cancelled due to covid but we have decided to commemorate his passing in a charity walk in May 2022 when we walk the last 100 kilometres of the Pilgrim Way to Rome.
We spoke to Michael's widow, Elizabeth, about the most appropriate charity to support and she suggested Wessex Cancer Trust. They had supported her when she contracted a rare form of cancer (Sarcoma) and we had actually supported Sarcoma UK in our Coast to Coast walk. She believes that this would best support Michael's wishes. This charity has become more appropriate as one of our party, Nigel, was recently diagnosed with cancer and is currently undergoing treatment.
Wessex Cancer Trust believes that there should be help and support to everyone living with cancer, when and where they need it. A diagnosis can be a shock and have a huge impact on an entire family. The dedicated team at the Trust are committed to offering free support for as long as people need it, away from a hospital environment.
