Diabetes UK is the charity leading the fight against the UK's devastating and fastest growing health crisis, working to create a world where diabetes can do no harm. It’s a fight that involves all of us – sharing knowledge and taking diabetes on together. Join us.

Story

I started my career as a Type 1 Diabetic when I was a spotty, emotionally insecure teenager and have not looked back since.

My first injection was into a satsuma (who I believe wasn't a diabetic) on the night I was diagnosed.

My first Hypo was carrying a school table out of the gym after a mock exam, scaring the pants off my school mates around me, I was pretty shocked and scared as well.

It's a love/hate relationship being a Type 1, we get along pretty well most of the time but sometimes you just have enough of 'the 24/7 control', however, seeing your blood glucose at a perfect 7.0 is a real buzz!

I am doing this swim because I've had a lot of help from family, friends, strangers, doctors and nurses and it is about time I did this to prove to myself I can do it and hopefully raise some funds for a worthy cause.
