One Million Metres Challenge · 17 July 2021

We are a national charity established in 2009 - led by patients and bladder cancer experts (clinicians, nurses, researchers) working together to raise awareness of bladder cancer, improve outcomes for patients, improve and fund research and improve patient support.

Story

I lost my father and grandfather to bladder cancer. So I decided to keep running until I have raised £1m to help fight it. The plan is to do 1 million metres of running events and be sponsored £1 for each metre. If I don't achieve the target after that, well, I guess I'll just keep running!

Bladder cancer is not a rare cancer - it is of the ten most common cancers in the UK - that's 4% of all new cases.Over 20,000 people are diagnosed each year, and many of those will die. Despite this, there is very limited public awareness of the disease and it is a low priority on the public health agenda. Treatments have changed very little over the past 30 years and research is seriously underfunded. Bladder cancer has been called a 'Cinderella' cancer. ABC UK is dedicated to changing this and to giving bladder cancer patients a voice.

I previously had a BT MyDonate page for my fundraising, unfortunately BT has stopped support for the platform, so I have switched to JustGiving. Apologies that I can't display the kind messages from donors on the old page, nevertheless my gratitude to you endures.
