Story

Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page

In these hard pressed times, another charity donation is perhaps not the most popular of requests.  But please bear with me a moment and consider giving whatever you can.  I really don't mind if it's a quid or a hundred quid; it's the spirit in which it is given, and the fact you care... that matters greatly to me.

The SHINE - NTW fund offers valuable additional resources to our service users where central funding is not available.  In my experience, it's sometimes the little things that can be the catalyst for success and recovery for people.... and the absence of them which can trigger an ongoing need for more formal intervention.

The sort of work done by SHINE - NTW is quite extensive.  It might be providing a cash injection to set up a workshop, or a self help group.  It might be used to provide a greenhouse, or to buy cycling equipment or perhaps contribute to an excursion for service users.  In the past, we have done all of these things as well as use the cash to ensure that games and activities and other recreational activities are available on wards.

It is important to recognise that donations provided, do not replace any central care funding.  But instead add to it, to try and provide the little extras that can really make a difference.  As someone with decades of experience in mental health.. on both sides of the fence, I am continually reminded that the smallest gesture can make the biggest impact to a person's wellbeing.

I'm therefore running this year, not for glory; and not for my own personal Kudos.   I'm running to show my support for NTW in this initiative and to raise the profile of a cause, close to my heart and one which offers real benefit to those less fortunate.

In trying to sum up, I'd say this:
Like the run itself; recovery from mental ill health is a journey.  In any journey, no matter how small, every step matters.

Thank you so much
