Story
We are looking for some help to raise money for the paediatric intensive care unit (PICU) Southampton. They looked after my son George Eric Macleod-Stuart in the last week of his life. He left behind Me my Wife Charlotte, a sister Bethney and a brother Jack he also never met his
younger sister Amelia.
A little background info on George.
George was born on 8th January 2010 (it was snowing) at only 26 weeks and was in hospital for the first 2 months of his life.
We would visit him 3 times a day. He came out of hospital in March 2010 and we were so happy to have him home.
Everything was going well until the night of the 4th April when in the
early hours of the morning we woke to find him not breathing.
I started to give him CPR wile my wife rang the paramedics. They were
there within 4 min's and had him off to the hospital straight away. They
battled for 38 min's to get his heart going again when they did he was then hooked up to lots of machine's while they did more tests and scans to see what was wrong. After 6 days they had completed these tests and found out he had less than 1% chance of survival. As he had sustained major brain damage from the lack of oxygen to his brain. We then had to decide when to turn off the machines that were keeping him alive. After we found this out we decided to get him christened and the hospital priest was happy to help.
The funeral was held on the 26th April 2010 in Southampton crematorium.
The priest from the hospital held the service and was very helpful.
The first year was very hard on all of us and on his first anniversary we
spent it as a family. Ever since then we have held a fundraiser in his
name.
He left a big hole in our lives and we just want to give as much back to the PICU unit in Southampton to help other family's that are in that situation as the department is run on donations and fundraising.
All the money raised has helped to buy important equipment for the unit.
