The British Normandy Memorial
After making several visits to the Normandy beaches, we were appalled to discover that the 22,442 British servicemen and women who gave their lives in what can be considered one of greatest conflicts of WW2, did not have a permanent memorial in Normandy.
The Americans have a large memorial and museum at Omaha and the Canadians have a memorial and museum at Juno.
But now, we have the start of a British Memorial at Ver-sur-Mer overlooking Gold Beach in Normandy.
Prime Minister Theresa May and French President Macron inaugurated the Memorial on the morning of 6 June 2019, exactly 75 years after the momentous invasion of Normandy, and the start of the liberation of France.
We hope you managed to see some of the TV coverage of the anniversary commemorations, and you could not fail to be moved by those fantastic veterans. Surely we have to do this for them and to honour those who did not return.
It is hoped the main Memorial will be completed by June - August 2020, when 22,442 names will be carved on the Memorial, but further fundraising is still needed. Later, a world class visitor and education centre will be added.
The D Day Landings in Normandy have inspired numerous films over many years, and British visitors to the landing beaches must be decidedly underwhelmed, and so we ask you to support the project to build a Memorial which we consider to be a supremely worthy cause.
The D Day Landings are now seen as one of the decisive turning points of the Second World War and is often referred to as the beginning of the end of the war in Europe.

We understand that some £20 million has been promised by the UK Government by Libor Funding, around £3 million has been raised by the public, but a further £7 million is still required to be raised by public subscription.
The British Normandy Memorial Trust says that a nominal donation of £35 covers the cost of engraving one name on the memorial. Artist impressions of the Memorial suggest it will be similar to the National Arboretum in Staffordshire.
We have made a further donation to this fantastic cause, and hope that if you did not donate before, you can do so this time, and if you were generous enough to make a donation previously, perhaps you could collect any loose change around the house and make another small donation now.
