Story
Introduction
Last year, I started to make a difference in my life having lost 7 stones, well now this year, I want to work to help a very special children's charity whilst taking part in some fun (and maybe not so fun!) challenges. Lucy Air Ambulance was recommended to me by The Sporting Bears Motor Club, of which I am a very proud member. Like so many charities, the last couple of years have been tough. So, having looked into what they do and how they operate, I am excited to be supporting them with various fundraising activities throughout 2022. If you are able and happy to donate, no matter how small, I will be so grateful.
About the charity
Each week a child is referred to their service needing a transfer by plane between hospitals. The transfers mean that:
- Children can access life-saving specialist care and surgery, including organ transplants.
- Premature babies can be moved in our incubator to receive neonatal care close to home.
- Children who are nearing end of life can be taken to a hospital/hospice closer to home.
- Families are reunited and parent’s mental health improves.
- £10 could pay for a special mask that will support a child's breathing during a flight
- £25 could pay for ECG dots to help monitor a child’s heart activity during a flight.
- £50 could pay for an infant warming mattress to keep children warm and reduce the risk of hypothermia.
- £200 could go towards the costs of a specialist nurse to care for a child during a flight.
- £800 could pay for a specialist doctor to look after a child during a flight.
- £8,000 could pay for an entire Lucy AAC transfer for one child.
My Challenges
They are several planned challenges, this JustGiving page is about those challenges and so I aim to raise funds for the charity by doing each of these challenges during 2022 and reporting on those challenges here.
1, Virtual Walk from John O'Groats to Lands End - 874* miles.
DONE!!!! Completed 25th June 2022
2, Abseil down the Spinnaker Tower, Portsmouth.
DONE!!! Completed 25th June 2011
3, Parachute Jump. 10,000 feet. Tandem jump Booked! Planned jump date is 15th April 2023 - Location: Near Nottingham
4, Airport, ticket, and passport. For those that know me well, this could be the biggest challenge yet. Not the fear of flying, but for me to be at an airport with a passport and ticket has got to be a first in decades. Sadly though I will have no idea where it is I am going until I'm about to board. Polar jacket or swimming trunks, who knows! OK, this is not so much about raising funds but hopefully raising some entertainment and further awareness for the charity, along the journey.
Oh, and there are some more fundraising challenges I have up my sleeve that I will reveal here during the year.
