Story
I am taking part in Retina Australia's Do it in the Dark campaign to help raise awareness if IRD (Inherited Retinal Disease) and also to rise funds to support research into future treatments.
Retina Australia has provided me with some funky glasses that simulate tunnel vision, often one of the symptoms of an inherited retinal disease. To raise funds, I intend to host a 'Sip and Paint' session at home, a Morning Tea outdoors and an Easter Egg Hunt during the school holidays. We will be wearing the glasses during these activities. I would love it if you could join me for the fun, so if you are in town and keen to know the details, contact me.
This fundraiser is important to me because, as you know, Zane was diagnosed with an IRD, Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) when he was only 5 years old. Don't be fooled by the fancy name, this disease is brutal. Zane has night blindness and tunnel vision. Somehow, he manages extremely well and he is not letting these limitations stop him from enjoying life to the fullest.
There are hundreds of genes that can cause this condition. No treatments yet. I want to help Retina Australia fund more research to find treatments so we can slow or stop the progression.
Thanks for your support.
