Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As those of you who know me well will know, life hasn't exactly always been healthy, so I can really appreciate the trials and tribulations that people go through to carry out normal everyday tasks and functions with a range of disabilities. Having spent a fair chunk of my life in hospitals, I've learned to appreciate the times when I'm relatively healthy and active so much more.
I have certainly never been described as "athletic" or "active" and I suspect that this has a lot to do with my having been so poorly from my teens. Exercise just stopped being part of my routine. So I have decided now that I have hit my glorious 40s, that's it time to get moving and start giving back.
My charity of choice has for a long time been Ty Hafan; the hospice for Welsh children situated not far outside Cardiff in the Vale of Glamorgan. I have played their £1 a week lottery since it began 10 years or so ago (and am still waiting for a win!).
I was diagnosed with my non-life-limiting but debilitating condition at the tender age of 13, the age that my daughter is at now. Thankfully, my condition has been treatable to a certain degree. I cannot imagine how a family copes with a diagnosis of a life-limiting illness in a precious child and I am lucky enough to have a daughter who is in rude health (at the age of 13, "rude" is highly appropriate!!!).
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
For my first venture, I will be walking 8 miles with a bunch of wonderful ladies and hope to raise lots of lovely funds to contribute in some small way to the families who nurse their lovely children daily and avail themselves of the services of Ty Hafan.
So please dig deep and donate now.
