Story

During my breast cancer journey, I came across Future Dreams in London and never left since! The moment I walked through the doors it felt like home.

With a family atmosphere, it’s a place that’s simultaneously familiar and exciting where you can sit, meet others, learn and be inspired.

When I was at my lowest I shall never forget being comforted by front house Lisa in the foyer. As I told my story, from diagnosis to losing my partner and the trajectory of medical treatment that followed, Lisa simply held me and I left feeling less alone. I knew then that I’d be back. I also signposted others to visit for emotional and practical support.

With workshops and therapeutic activities on offer plus social meet ups and coffee mornings with Amanda Hanson, FD became the driving force behind this fundraiser.

I was keen to raise awareness for early detection and more research into secondary cancer.

Then when I was invited to dance for a photoshoot at FD with the eminent Photographer Simon Emmet I realised that this is how I’ve survived and now thrive.

So I called this fundraiser ‘Dancing through Cancer’ because through the music and dancing I’ve not only been able to share my story, but also met people from all walks of life who in return say my story has resonated and inspired.

We all have a story to tell and while life’s pains and hardships can take a toll on our mental health, through this fundraiser I have also experienced a yearning for joy and connection. And people from both cancer and non cancer communities have been incredible in their generosity, time and donations towards a good cause.

For this reason and more I’m hoping this giving page will allow many of you who couldn’t attend our event to give whatever you can. I have had lots of messages asking if they can still donate. Yes please and do share the link with friends and families.

We are stretched yet events like these bring us together.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to you all. And thank you to Suzanne Brennan and the amazing team at FD

Love Ami
