Story
Our beautiful third baby girl Astrid arrived into the world on the 16th June, she was quite simply perfect! Devastatingly however the following day when doing the routine baby check to discharge us from hospital the midwife discovered our little girl had a significant heart murmur. This led to her having a short stay in Leeds NICU, which is where we learnt the heart wrenching news that there was nothing they could do to fix her poorly heart and she had a life limiting condition called HLHS (only half a functioning heart 💔) we then had to make the hardest decision I hope we ever have to make in our life to transfer her to Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice for end of life care.
We were told she we would most likely only have a few hours to 2/3 days to live but our little fighter was determined to get in as many cuddles as she could and passed peacefully in mummy and daddy’s arms in the early hours of Saturday morning at nearly 3 and a half weeks old.
We have been well aware for a number of years of the wonderful work Bluebell do providing respite and end of life care for families of poorly children, but never dreamed we would also need there services at some point. We can’t thank them enough for the invaluable and wonderful care they have provided our family with during this torturous time. It will forever be Astrid’s home and a very special place to us.
