Story
Just a month before his second birthday, my best friend Kim's nephew Ollie was diagnosed with high-risk neuroblastoma, a particularly aggressive form of childhood cancer.
Ollie is currently going through chemotherapy. If he gets into remission, statistically he will relapse almost half of the time. If that happens his chances of survival drop to less than 1 in 10.
Ollie's family are working tirelessly to raise funds in case Ollie needs to access further treatment not available on the NHS to either clear the disease if his frontline treatment doesn't go to plan or to keep the cancer from returning if he gets into remission.
So, despite swearing I would never do a half marathon again after last time (for those who don't know me, I have zero natural running ability), I've decided to don my running trainers once again and attempt the Hackney Half in May to help raise money for Ollie's treatment. My annoyingly fast friends Elle, Beth and Eilidh, will also be running with me, you'll find them about 3 miles ahead of me for the entire route.
Anything you can contribute, however big or small the amount, will be hugely appreciated by Ollie's family and could make all the difference to this little boy's future. Thank you in advance!
