 I signed up to do the Derby 10k run sometime ago and it was one thing of many that I had on my personal bucket list of experiences and achievements that I wanted to accomplish going forward. I'm also hoping to raise as much money as possible for a charity that I feel passionately about and the work that they do.

 Statistically there are 846 girls for every 1000 boys in Punjab, which is the worst sex ratio in India. 274 girls are aborted every day in Punjab before they are born because of their sex. Unfortunately, boys are regarded as the preferred sex in a state where 60% of the population are Sikhs, a religion that teaches you that all humans are equal.

 Unique Home for Girls is a home for unwanted and abandoned girls in Jalandhar, Punjab, India. Founder and manager of the home, Bibi Prakash Kaur, who herself was abandoned as a child, has become a mother to the girls, providing them with an education, clothing, food, shelter and mostly love that was denied to them by their parents.

 This is only my first step in supporting the home by doing the 10k run and raising money for a fantastic charity. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
