Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I originally signed up to run the Notts 10k only. However, I have since run the York 10k on the 7th August, Robin Hood Half Marathon (my first) and am running the Sheffield 10k (30th October).
Cancer affected me from an early age when my Grandpa was diagnosed with cancer, and later died in 1996 when I was 9 years old. One of the things I will always remember, is the care the nurses provided to him but also the support they gave us. For a 9 year old, seeing all those tubes and my Grandpa being so ill was very scary and difficult to understand. The nurses took the time to explain what each machine was and how it was helping my Grandpa. They also encouraged me to speak with him, even though he was in a coma. I will forever be grateful for their care and support. While these nurses were not from Macmillan, they had a lasting impact on my life.
Cancer entered my life again when both my Grandma and Aunt were diagnosed with breast cancer; and an uncle passed away before I was even born.
For the last three years I have been trying to make healthy changes and choices to improve my health and well-being. I decided to look for a new fitness challenge for motivation. Running a 10k and raising money for Macmillan seemed like an obvious choice for me. They do amazing work in providing support and care to those battling cancer and their families. If running any distance and raising money for Macmillan means that somebody will have the same support my family did, I will happily lace up shoes and face this new challenge.
My goal is to raise £150. £1 for every pound of weight I lost. £150 can help Macmillan provide a woman with a breast cancer diagnosis sensitive answers to the questions she has about her diagnosis. Practical advice on how to cope with the side-effects of treatment. And help with adjusting to going back to work, slowly.
Every additional £1 I raise for Macmillan is a bonus. I am blown away by the support I have received from family and friends. It really does help motivate me on my runs and it means so much to me.
