I’m having my head shaved to raise awareness of and help to fund research into dermatomyositis, a rare auto-immune disease, which affects virtually all the muscles in the body. I was diagnosed with this debilitating condition about two months ago, and at the same time discovered I had breast cancer.

My operation went well and I have just started chemotherapy—hence the head shave! My hope is that the chemo will also alleviate the DM, which is currently affecting my physical movement, swallowing, eating and talking.

It would be good to be sipping a glass of Prosecco in the shade of an olive tree on a Tuscan hillside, while awaiting a plate of piccione selvatico in vino rosso, although the medics tell me that the tube feed is very nutritious!
