Story
During 2020 I was able to get out into the Oxfordshire countryside to get exercise and fresh air, and started to get in shape by running. I had to go very early in the mornings to get back in time to start my working day, which got me thinking about the many people whose jobs and livelihoods have been disrupted or lost due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Joblessness and poverty can spring upon people very quickly, often those who never dreamt it could happen to them. The pandemic will drive many more people into this situation, through no fault of their own, and I believe that something must be done about this.
In 2021 I plan to undertake the longest run I have ever done to help raise money for Christians Against Poverty (CAP), a debt-relief charity working to support those struggling with debt.
The "three bridge challenge" will take me on a 21 mile round-trip journey. From the first bridge at Goring-on-Thames, I will run downstream along the north bank of the Thames until reaching Whitchurch-on-Thames (the second bridge). From here, I will cross to the south bank and continue downstream to Caversham bridge in Reading, where I will cross back to the north side of the Thames, and run in a loop back to my starting point.
I hope that you'll be able to support me in supporting those trapped in poverty and debt.
