Raising Funds to Support the Lads Club Refurbishment, 6 October 2020
The Lads' Club is home for a variety of activities for young and old and serves as a church hall. Building work to refurbish and modernise the building is nearing completion and will be opening to meet the needs of community groups in early October.

Story

Why are we raising funds.....?

The Lads’ Club is in desperate need of updating and improvement.  The ambitious plans not only update the building, they also extend the hall, improving the facility and bringing it in line with latest building regulations.  This includes the latest fire safety standards around cladding.  It will also reduce the ongoing maintenance and energy costs ensuring its future viability.

Although all users in the community will benefit from this development there is a particular improvement planned for the villages 1st Saltwood Scout Group, the provision of a toilet and shower, which will enable the Scouts, Cubs and Beaver’s to camp in the adjacent Scout Garden.  The increased space and improved layout of The Lads' Club will also enable Scout sections to provide better activities for the children.  It also opens the possibility of installing a simple traversing wall to enable climbing activities to improve the children’s health and agility.

Without this proposed development, the village facility will deteriorate further, hence impacting its ability to serve the community.  The young people of the village, particularly the Scout sections, would suffer as a result.

What improvements are to be expected?

The completion of the planned Lads’ Club renovation works would revitalise the appearance of the building as well as improving the space and facilities within it.  As well as ensuring the continued use of the community building by current users, it would also increase the potential of attracting new users.

The building’s carbon footprint will be reduced by becoming properly insulated and equipped with a far more energy efficient heating system.  Furthermore, the addition of windows along the north elevation will significantly reduce the need for lighting during the daytime.  They also bring improved views of the adjacent idyllic farmland, and the animals that use this area for grazing.

The current access to the Lads’ Club will also be greatly improved, better serving wheelchair users and those with buggies and pushchairs.

Please help us to reach our fundraising target by donating whatever you can – no matter how small.  It will make a huge difference to the village children and the wider community.
