We care for sick and premature babies to give every baby the best chance of life

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

At Ashington, we have a nominated charity (which changes annually) to whom we donate all of the money we raise during charity events and other fundraising activities.

In 2015, that charity is the Tiny Lives Fund. Please see below the two stories that were the reasons behind this decision.

1) Tiny Lives is a charity that is close to our hearts. As many of you may be aware, we have twin girls; Eliza and Elodie.

Twins generally arrive on time - usually prior to 35 weeks. The RVI provide support and comfort to families when this happens to them. All throughout our pregnancy we prepared ourselves for an early arrival and even visited the premature baby ward, so we were ready in case this was to happen. The staff were amazing throughout.

Fortunately, we carried our twins full term. The charity is very important to us and to many other families who have twins. We witnessed first hand the struggle the parents have when trying to look after these precious new arrivals through an incubator.

2) My best friends children were both born prematurely and collectively spent months in the Special Care Baby Unit.

Daisy was born at 24 weeks and weighed little more than 1lb and her parents feared that she wouldnt survive. She was put into an incubator as her lungs had not had sufficient time to develop. Daisy was able to come home after 4 months but not long after this, Layla fell pregnant again.

After 31 weeks, George was born weighing 4lbs and was also taken to the Special Care Baby Unit. After everything that had happened with Daisy, the family knew more what was going on and were optimistic that he would pull through without any problems.

George came home after three weeks to join his sister. Today they are four and five-years-old and are happy, settled and content children.
