Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 4th September 2015 Arthur Forster, Dave Marshall and I (Robbie Hendry) will be starting an epic journey from Lands End to John O'Groats. The following 9 days we will cover 966 miles, averaging just over 108 miles per day across barren moorlands and majestic highlands to lush green valleys, winding back lanes and stunning coastal roads. The ride finishes on 13th September at John O'Groats.

We are undertaking this challenge to support SACHD (Scottish Association for Children with Heart Disorders) and in memory of my daughter Anna Elise Hendry who was born in April 2013 with a rare congenital heart disorder called 'Tetralogy of Fallot'. Anna had open heart surgery at 12 weeks old and thereafter continued to thrive. At the age of 13 months Anna was admitted to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow for a complete repair.

Despite the positive outlook there were complications and Anna spent the next 16 days on a life support machine, enduring over 40 hours of open heart surgery as the surgeons tried in vain to save her. Heartbreakingly, that wasn't enough and time ran out for Anna and she passed away in our arms. She had a happy and contented life, but one that was far too short.

During the period that Anna was unwell SACHD offered our family a huge amount of support and I am keen to give something back.  I would also like to thank my employer, Aker Solutions, who not only provided understanding at a really difficult time but are also supporting me by allowing me time to undertake this epic challenge.
