Story
I have made many mistakes in my life and done allot of bad deeds, at this moment of time my bad deeds overweigh all the good I have done.
I have had difficulties in my life, I just began to feel sorry for myself, I was being selfish, I came to the revelation that my difficulties are nothing compared to those poor children who don't even have any food or water, the simple basic needs for us humans to live, which many of just take for granted.
After having some extra spare time on my hands I began to reflect and contemplate this world and the life we live, it came to my understanding that whilst we are here competing about who has the latest iPhone, who has the best flashiest car, their are those amongst us who we share this world and life with, that don't even have shoes to put on their feet.
I myself have always tried to keep up with the latest trends, and I have had my fair share of materialistic goods, yet I did not feel fulfillment or satisfaction, I could only feel an empty ness in my soul.
I began to wonder what was the purpose of my life, what can I achieve in my life, it came to my revelation that having nice cars with private number plates etc are not really an accomplishment, it is nothing to be proud of.
This is when the idea of doing something to help those in need came to me, I want to feel some satisfaction in my life, I want to feel as though I have done some good and that is why I set up this challenge for myself, I see it as the leap of faith for the sake of the needy children.
Being a father of three infant children myself, I can understand that all parents want the best for their kids, the parents make many sacrifices for their children, I personally wanted to give my children the world, I was constantly spoiling them with unnecessary gifts, and buying them way over the top expensive branded clothes... Why? Whats the reason?... A jumper from Primark will be just as much use as a jumper from next!
I was wasting money, the clothes are practically the same, the only difference being the price! Surely this price difference could have gone to those children who have no clothes at all.
Thinking about all the times I have taken my children to McDonalds and paid over the top for kids meals, which don't even get fully eaten, and the main part of the meal is a useless toy.
Then when you stop to think how long have some children in places like Africa gone without any food or water? Days? Or maybe weeks? How long can they last?...
I would like to finish off with a quotation from one of the best songs ever written by the best musical artist.
"I'm Gonna Make A Change,
For Once In My Life,
It's Gonna FeelReal Good,
Gonna Make A Difference
Gonna Make It Right . . ."
"As I, Turn Up The Collar On My
Favourite Winter Coat
This Wind Is Blowin' My Mind
I See The Kids In The Street,
With Not Enough To Eat
Who Am I, To Be Blind?
Pretending Not To See
Their Needs
A Summer's Disregard,
A Broken Bottle Top
And A One Man's Soul
They Follow Each Other On
The Wind Ya' Know
'Cause They Got Nowhere
To Go
That's Why I Want You To
Know"
I'm Starting With The Man In Mirror
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself, And
Then Make A Change)
(Na Na Na, Na Na Na, Na Na,
Na Nah)
I've Been A Victim Of A Selfish
Kind Of Love
It's Time That I Realize
That There Are Some With No
Home, Not A Nickel To Loan
Could It Be Really Me,
Pretending That They're Not
Alone?
A Willow Deeply Scarred,
Somebody's Broken Heart
And A Washed-Out Dream
(Washed-Out Dream)
They Follow The Pattern Of
The Wind, Ya' See
Cause They Got No Place
To Be
That's Why I'm Starting With
Me
(Starting With Me!)
I'm Starting With The Man In
The Mirror
(Ooh!)
I'm Asking Him To Change
His Ways
(Ooh!)
And No Message Could Have
Been Any Clearer
If You Wanna Make The World
A Better Place
(If You Wanna Make The
World A Better Place)
Take A Look At Yourself And
Then Make A Change
(Take A Look At Yourself And Make A Change)
