Story
On 16 June 2013, my darling girl, my first-born child, died suddenly and unexpectedly. She died from SUDEP, a condition I didn't know existed before she died from it. She was 21 years old, full of joy and full of life. Aimee's death has left a huge, gaping hole that can never be filled.
Tuesday 28th December 2021 should be Aimee's 30th birthday. It is an incredibly difficult milestone to face. Thirty feels so very different to twenty-one. At 21, you are just starting out as an adult, barely out of your teens. At 30, you are a 'proper' grown-up, moving forward with your adult life. Aims never had the chance to do that.
It is impossible to sum Aimee up in just a few words. It is difficult, even now, to speak about her in the past tense. From the moment she was born, she was an incredibly special person. She was kind, caring, thoughtful, loyal and strong. She was funny, silly, hard-working, loving and clever. She was a daughter, a sister, a niece, a granddaughter, a fiancee, a friend. She was so many things to so many people. The hole can never be filled.
Three months before she died, Aimee qualified as a nurse. As well as working as a staff nurse at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, Aimee was a much-loved member of the palliative care centre team at Keech Hospice Care. Her ambition was to specialise in palliative care after getting some post-qualifying experience under her belt. She never got the chance to do that either.
Aimee's Fund is her legacy. It is our way of carrying on her nursing, to carry on looking after people for her. Every penny raised goes to support Keech Hospice Care and the East Anglia Air Ambulance. Please consider giving whatever you can to mark Aimee's 30th birthday. Every donation, no matter how small, helps to remember our wonderful girl who died long before her time.
Thank you for reading my story and for remembering Aimee <3
