Story
In 2012, just a few weeks after I moved to the UK I participated in a 10k run and Diversity Role Models was the charity partner. I heard DRM’s founder Suran speak about the work of DRM and I was instantly drawn in. Over the last 9 years I have been an office volunteer, secondary and primary school role model and individual donor. Since 2018 I have been proud to hold the role of CEO.
My connection to DRM stems from my own personal experience of being bullied for being different. As much as I loved school, I also disliked it. I disliked being targeted for looking and speaking different from others. I was targeted for being gay – long before I ever knew I was gay.
The last 12+ months has been challenging for all of us. DRM has successfully navigated through the national lockdowns and home-schooling and launched a digital delivery model that will continue to enable us to work with any school, regardless of location.
The 2021/22 school year is now set to be DRM’s biggest year to date.
In addition to the love and support of friends, family, colleagues and DRM supporters, the National Trust properties around where I live have been an escape and a place of reflection. For this reason, I have chosen to complete a 10-hour walk visiting 10 National Trust sites on DRM’s 10th birthday.
Will you consider donating £10?
Or perhaps £10 for each hour I will walk?
Thank you for supporting Diversity Role Models and my personal fundraising challenge.
