Story
In July 2020, my Dad had the first of several dizzy spells. At the start of September, a week after his 70th birthday, he collapsed and was rushed to hospital where scans revealed our worst nightmare...2 Stage 4 Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM) brain tumours. He was due to start radiotherapy in October but a further scan revealed it had spread too deep and this wouldn't be effective, so they went with a 12 week course of Chemotherapy. In week 10, his review scan revealed it had made no difference and both tumours had actually grown...and on the 26th of January, 2021, at home surrounded by his closest family, we lost him to this cruel and awful disease.
Average life expectancy with a GBM, from diagnosis, is a mere 14 months. My Dad, despite always being a fit and healthy man, lasted only 5 months. It is the most common and aggressive type of adult brain tumour...no one is immune and there is no cure.
As brain tumour research as a whole receives only 1.4% of the total cancer spend in the UK, I want to do my bit in memory of my amazing Dad to build awareness of this disease and help fund the vital research that is being undertaken by running from my house to theirs, from Cheshire to Yorkshire, 36 miles across plains and over hills on Easter Sunday (April 4th, 2021) for the Headcase Cancer Trust which dedicates its funding solely to the research of finding a cure for Glioblastoma Multiforme brain tumours.
The last great cancer battle will be fought in the brain....if you can, please join the ranks and donate to this worthy cause!
