Story
Highlands and Islands Blood Bikes (HAIBB) are a charity who deliver essential services to the NHS across our vast geographic area covering all of our communities and run 100% by volunteers funded entirely by charitable donations.
This year they are APUC’s Charity of the Year and our UHI Shared Service Procurement Team are virtually walking/running/cycling and
swimming our way round the North Coast 500 Route between 1 September and 12 October 2020 to help raise funds for this amazing charity!
HAIBB transport essential blood, urgent medical supplies including Covid-19 tests, out of hours, between hospitals and healthcare sites all across Scotland. Based out of Inverness and as part of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes the volunteer bikers travel all over Scotland from Ardnamurchan to Aviemore, Durness to Dundee, Oban to Orkney. The service they deliver is provided entirely free of charge to the NHS.
Whilst putting a halt to all fundraising, Covid-19 has simultaneously seen a huge increase in demand for this service. HAIBB cover the largest area of all the blood bike groups in the UK and funds to retain the service are currently very low.
The NC500 is only a fraction of the area HAIBB covers but we hope it demonstrates the vast area this charity covers and why they need our
help to raise vital funds and keep supporting our local communities!
WE NEED YOUR HELP, please dig deep and donate whatever you
can! Your donations will keep us motivated and keep the bikes on the road. Of course we’ll keep you updated with our progress!!
