Story
The Scout Association has a long history of camping and sleeping outside, stretching back to the very first Scout camp on Brownsea Island on the 1st August 1907, but where the Scouts know that at the end of the camp they have a home and a nice hot meal and shower to get to, this isn't the case when you live on the streets.
According to Shelter, there are around 320,000 homeless people on the streets of Britain today, but truthfully there is no way to be able to track this.
The 8th High Wycombe Cubs and Scouts will be spending the night sleeping rough, with only rudimentary shelter and no creature comforts, to try to experience what thousands experience every night.
Our Beaver pack will be doing an additional food bank collection on the night.
We are aiming to raise money for the Wycombe Homeless Connection so that they can continue providing a roof during winter in their Night Shelter, help reduce harm for those who are homeless, hopefully find suitable accommodation, defend the rights of those without a home, and ideally to help prevent homelessness before it starts. In addition, we would like to give our young people the opportunity to learn more about what is going on around them, the reasons why people may end up homeless, and what they can do to help.
