Story
As a whole school, we are completing an 8 mile sponsored walk in Fancy
Dress to raise money for an awesome charity chosen by our students: Aid to the Church in Need.
Aid to the Church in Need fund over 5,000 projects in
more than 140 countries around world, helping to support the Church in its
mission, and bringing hope and solidarity to millions of people.
One example of the work they do is with refugees in Syria with families
such as Rana and Akram who were told by Islamist rebel soldiers to “Either you leave – or you will be killed.” Faced with this threat, Rana, Akram and their three daughters – the
youngest of whom is 2 – quickly left their home near Homs, western Syria. Fleeing
to neighbouring Lebanon, the Christian family sought sanctuary in Zahle, in the
Beqaa Valley which runs parallel with the Syrian border. In Zahle, refugees are
looked after by the Melkite Church – an Eastern Catholic Church in full
communion with Rome – which has been providing aid for refugees since shortly
after the war began.
Melkite Archbishop John Darwish told us: “We have about 650 Christian
families in Zahle – but we receive no help from the UN”.
We will be doing our Sponsored Walk dressed as pirates and we would be
grateful for any donations you are able to give!
