Story

The story goes back to 26th Novemeber 2020 5:10pm. With a week of Movember left. I started grinding on the Durham University Lifting Club (DULC) Movember challenge, in a shallow and feeble attempt to win the grand prize of a Weightlifting House flag and £20 of Strength Shop voucher. In a moment of hot headed, adrenaline filled determination, I posted an open challenge to a dude named Guy Parker on the DULC facebook page. The challenge states that, I will do as many pushups and pullups as the number of squats he did if i fail to surpass him. Seeing that you're here, reading this page, I'm sure you can guess the ending to this story.

Exploiting the frustration of my shame and disgrace, and making use of the festive spirit. I am using my loss to start a Christmas/New Year challenge.

The rules for my challenge are as follow:
  1. The challenge ends at the end of the 2020/21 Durham Christmas vacation i.e. GMT 00:00 11th January 2021
  2. With permission from Guy, a negative pullup with a minimum hold time of 2 seconds will count as 0.5 rep.
  3. The goal is 7205 pushups and 7205 pullups. In the event that I can't complete all the reps (I know, hard to imagine), I will donate £1 for every 400 reps I fail to do i.e. I will donate £36 at the end of the challenge proportional to how far I am from the goal (allow it, mans poor and this is a big donation for me).
  4. The fundraising goal is the same amount as the DULC Movember challenge, £258.
Backing the voice of DULC, I have decided to do this challenge in support of the SCI Foundation. This is a charity that tackles schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis, both of which are caused by worms and paraisites. WHO estimates that 206 million people are affected by schistosomiasis and 1.5 billion are infected with STH. They cause all kinds of nasties: bladder cancer; organ damage; increased risk of HIV infection. Basically, you name it, it does it.

Oh, and here's the link to the spreadsheet I use to keep track of the challenge. Feel free to have a look if you want to follow my progress.
