Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
Gary:
Back in 2011 my wife Becci was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the following three years she underwent two surgical procedures, two courses of radiotherapy and several rounds of chemotherapy.
Sadly on August 22 2013, aged just 39, Becci lost her fight to this horrible indiscriminate disease.
You hear so much about Macmillan’s without really understanding what they actually do until it affects you. I now know from personal experience they do everything you think and so much more.
On our first visit to the oncology department we were introduced to one of the Macmillan specialist nurses who works in the department and who are fully funded by Macmillan .
I cannot stress how much of a support & comfort having Ros & Alison there for myself and Becci was. They work seamlessly with the department nurses, they are there solely to support, advise, guide, listen & answer any questions from patients and families.
Becci’s wishes were, she wanted to be at home when the time came, so we were introduced to and visited at home by Mandy, another Macmillan nurse. Again, she was there for anything, arranging equipment such as bed, oxygen and prescriptions and also liaising home care with Macmillan, Marie Curie and the district nurse.
Their support to me was invaluable throughout and will be forever grateful.
I would now like to show my gratitude and support to the organisations which have supported us by competing in three personal challenges, aided by Bob, in order to raise funds so that others can continue to be supported as we were.
