Story
During a recent trip to Ethiopia myself and James were so touched by some of things we saw that we were keen to find a way to give something back to the people and communities we met along the way.
We were lucky enough to meet Susan, a wonderful Scottish woman who moved to Lalibela in northern Ethiopia 10 years ago. She recently featured on the Channel 5 show Ben Fogle - Lives In The Wild. Among many business ventures that give back to the community including the famous Ben Abeba restaurant, Susan set up a charity and scholarship fund to support the children and families that need it the most in the area. A fund to offer further opportunities to children, believing that through education and the acquiring of skills the standard of living for the individual can be greatly improved and so too can that of their communities.
Just £24 will pay for one child's education for a month. As such we have set our self a target of £1,440 as this will put one child through 2 years further education and a 3 year degree. Offering them a chance to improve the lives of their family and the community with a life changing opportunity. If you can give £24 amazing but even £1 from each of our friends will push us in the right direction and would be much appreciated - every little helps and really does mean so much to those that need it most! In an ideal world we can far exceed this target and fund 2 children - that would be amazing.
This charity is run by volunteers who support the local children in applying for a scholarship. Their applications are reviewed by a government authority to ensure they are legitimate and the donated funds are managed by a board in the UK. So unlike many other charities, we know that all of your donation is going to those that need it most. A full report is published each year to show how the children are getting on in school and tracking on their studies which can be shared with all donors.
We would really appreciate donations from friends and family to help us towards this goal. It is a chance to do something really really special and change a life.
Thank you,
Jade & James xx
