Story
Thanks for visiting our donations page!
Violet (mum and grandma to us) was a force to be reckoned with. She battled cancer for 17 years before she sadly passed on Good Friday, 10th April 2020 (appropriate for a hardened Catholic). We miss her greatly but amongst many other things her strength will never be forgotten; because of this, and in memory of her we are taking on a challenge that will test our strength and resilience.
As a family we wanted to do something to say thank you for the incredible support we all received during her end of life care, thus the '56 for Vi' Challenge was born! (56 years of Vi being Jacqui's mum).
The challenge is 56 minutes of high intensity workouts for 56 consecutive days - with the added NO alcohol for Jacqui too! Within this we have a set daily routine to complete, 56 each of: squats, burpees, push ups and sit ups.
The Specialist Palliative Care Team at Accrington Victoria Community Hospital were incredible in supporting Vi towards the end of her life. The added pressure of dealing with the Covid 19 pandemic, lack of resources, not being able to do simple things like hold Vi's hand when she was scared made their job even harder. Visits were limited, however they phoned daily to offer support and encouragement to us all; which was greatly received. These specialist nurses have one of the hardest jobs in the world - always helping others to say goodbye. Even during a pandemic, where they could have put themselves and their families first, they were there for us. We'd love to give back to this wonderful team.
Any donations are gratefully received.
