Story
I am the Commodore of Delph sailing club in Bolton and I sailed for 24 hours in the WLYC Virtual 24 Hour Race, completing 73 races back to back and winning both the Sim Mitchell trophy for being the highest placed competitor over 40 and the Porter Trophy for the fastest 50th Race.
I completed this ridiculous challenge in order to raise funds to adapt our home for my son Thomas who has multiple life limiting conditions. We are backed by the charity Sullivan Heroes who help families like us
Thomas is an active sailor at Delph in our Hansa 303 wide. Thomas was born 103 days too soon and has Cerebral Palsy, Hydrocephalus, Cortical Visual Impairment and Epilepsy brought on by severe brain bleeds he suffered shortly after birth.
Although he is a bright and happy young boy, he will never walk and may always need a degree of care. He has complex toileting needs and requires help with most of his basic functions.
We are raising funds to adapt our home to suit his currents needs but also to build in future independence for Thomas as he matures into an adult and moves from a manual to an electric wheelchair
