Kat Love - Running 2014km in 2014
Fundraising for Nepal Trust
Fundraising for Nepal Trust
On NYE 2013 I made a (rather foolish and drunken) resolution to run 5km every day in 2014.
In the (not so) early hours of New Years day I was just dropping off to sleep as the kids decided it was time to start 2014; it was a day of extreme fragility and, surprise-surprise, no running.
I soon revised my plan to run an AVERAGE of 5km a day: 1825km. And then it seemed silly not to make it up to 2014 (a flippant rounding decision I'm MASSIVELY regretting now).
This didn't begin as a sponsored challenge but became one when people kept offering to sponsor me. I have decided to split the money raised between two charities; The Nepal Trust and The Heeley Development Trust (though it only shows up on this page as NT).
The Nepal Trust is an organisation that means a lot to me and my family and does amazing work in the Hidden Himalayan region in the north of the country.
The Heeley Development Trust (also my landlords) are a charity based in Heeley, Sheffield who have blown me away. I didn't really know of their existence until I started working at Sum Studios in 2013 but have found their dedication and passion to be infectious.
I'm planning to support the Heeley Development Trust in establishing a free acupuncture clinic for patients with mental health issues - a cause very close to my heart. I have spent many a run thinking of 4 beautiful souls whose pain and struggles I can't begin to imagine.
Ciaran (1975 to 2003)
Sasha (1980 to 2009)
Joan (1954 to 2012)
Louise (1981 to 2013)
There have been extreme highs and extreme lows (geographically and emotionally). I have run with people who have inspired me, shocked me, counselled me, made me laugh hysterically, wiped my tears and physically knocked me over. I feel honoured to have been graced with the presence of such awesome running buddies - a HUGE thanks to you all.
The things I have learnt along the way are.......
- You never, ever regret going for a run.
- There are very few flat runs from Hathersage.
- Weather conditions & post-run smugness levels are inversely
proportional.
- I am proud to be a fat boy.
- It's indecision (not pride) that comes before a fall.
- Ignoring niggles is the best form of treatment.**
- Good friends really don't mind if you're not in good spirits all the time.
- Muddy feet are good for the soul.
- Running 2014km and having three kiddy-twinkles requires an amazing
boyfriend (Thanks Ru xx).
- I'm very stubborn and can't give things up.
- My navigation is still embarrassingly bad.
Coming into December I needed to run 10km a day - which has now crept up to 11km : (
** That's not my professional position; my professional opinion is to have acupuncture (at thetreatmentspace.com)
