Story
On the 13th April 2011, Gareth Crockett was tragically killed undertaking an incredible challenge. He along with Jez Davison and Neil Drew were attempting to cycle 500 miles, and run 4 marathons in 8 days, starting in BEL-fast, and culminating with the Lon-DON Marathon (hence the BELDON Challenge). On day 4 whilst cycling in North Wales, Gareth was hit from behind and killed instantly. They were doing the challenge in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research (LLR) in memory of their mutual friend John Erwin, who passed away only 11 months previously.
Jez and Jonny, Gareths brother aim to complete the challenge this year with the following itinerary:
Thursday 19th April: 125 mile cycle from Welshpool, Wales to Bristol.
Friday 20th April: 26.2 mile run, Bristol.
Saturday 21st April: 125 mile cycle from Bristol to London (joined by Neil Drew)
Sunday 22nd April: 26.2 mile run, London Marathon (along with William Crockett, Gareth & Jonny’s Dad)
Jez is a seasoned marathon and cycling veteran, but it is a different story for Jonny. Having never undertaken a single marathon or cycled on the roads since he passed his driving test, this challenge will be incredibly difficult both physically and emotionally. We want to make Gareth proud, and continue his fantastic fundraising efforts for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research. Last year over £50,000 (inc giftaid) was raised at www.justgiving.com/beldonchallenge.
Please dig deep and help us raise a fantastic amount of money in memory of Gareth and John.
(and remember to tick gift aid if you’re a taxpayer!)
