Story
Hi Guys,
*** WE DID IT ***
30/11/2020 - 450KM completed between the 4 of us.
Thank you to everyone for your support over the last 30 days!
The three of us are planning on running 100km each throughout the month of November in order to raise awareness of and funds for MS Ireland.
The goal is to run 3km every day (with 5x 5km included to bring it up to 100km). Orla and Aoife will be running around Portmarnock / Malahide while Conor will be in Oxford.
** Update ** - Our Dad, Martin Keogh, has come out of running retirement to join the cause and add another 100km to the board!
Multiple Sclerosis is a lifelong, progressive condition affecting the central nervous system. It is the leading cause of disability in young adults and can also affect others later in life. The most visually apparent symptom is reduced mobility. Other symptoms such as fatigue, changes in sensation, memory and concentration problems are often ‘hidden’ symptoms and can be difficult to explain to others.
The above coupled with the threat of COVID19 makes it very difficult for those with MS to stay active and take part in daily exercise.
We’ve decided to break a larger goal down into smaller daily targets to represent the physical challenges people with MS face and to highlight the importance of daily exercise.
MS Ireland is the national organisation providing information, vital services, advocacy and support to the MS community including the management of the only national respite and therapy centre for people with MS in Ireland.
To put their work into perspective, €26 provides an hour of care to an individual, €66 covers a physiotherapy session and €128 covers the cost of a series of counselling sessions.
