hello my name is Zara

a few years ago I came across the Ben Nevis challenge to raise money for alzheimers society. Pregnancy and recovering from major surgery delayed my registration til now 2015.

this july i shall be climbing Nevis in a bid to raise as much money and awareness of alzheimers and dementia as i possibly can. I have funded the climb myself so all donations will be given directly to the charity.

My grandad unfortunatly suffers with dementia and it has taken me years to accept that his condition as not just been a touch of old age forgetfulness. 

Together my grandad and i would scale the surroundibg hillsides when i was a child and he would guide and encourge my love of the great outdoors, teaching me plant names, bird song and a basic love of walking.

those memories are still such an important part of my life and memories i hope and pray i will never forget, sadly for my grandad now these are the memories that are begining to fade.

i see the sadness in his eyes as he tries to remember but also see the joy of when something is recalled .

my only hope of completing this climb is that he will know why i have dont it and whilst on my way up i can reflect on his condition and come to terms with the changes he is going through,
