Story
The Melanie Woiwode Memorial Scholarship Fund was set up in June 2007 by friends of Melanie Woiwode and the University of California Trust. Melanie Woiwode was a vibrant, young Californian woman of grace, courage and passion. Melanie lived in London and she was an active sportswoman.
The goal of the Melanie Woiwode Memorial scholarship fund is to facilitate life-changing sporting experiences for Californian women studying in the UK on the University of California Education Abroad Program. Woiwode Scholars typically receive grants between £100 and £250 to offset costs associated with undertaking a sporting activity on their year abroad.
Since it was started in 2008, the fund has touched the lives of 21 women on the education abroad program. They have applied for grants to participate in sports ranging from Hurley, Shinty, Rugby and Soccer, to Basketball and Lacrosse. Team sports are encouraged although grants have on occasion been awarded for horseriding and sailing.
The students receiving these grants have come from eight campuses of the University of California system and have studied at any one of twenty-four universities in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
Thank you for your support and thank for helping us to share the legacy of Melanie Woiwode with other young people .
